Good ol’ summertime.
Is there a season more perfectly fitting for seasonal, summery salads du jour?
Today’s garden produce obsession is brought to you by today’s grand opening of the new kid in town, Met on Main, Main Street, Nantucket.
I must admit, I really didn’t want to step foot inside.
Not even my big toe.
Prior summers we couldnt get enough of this exact watering hole – called The Even Keel – daily.
We loved their grab and go café and coffee bar, and popped in for iced teas and Nantucket Nectars by the handful.
We loved their back secret garden for lunch al fresco.
Even Keel was oh so special in our hearts – as the first island restaurant we braved bringing not one, but BOTH kids to for dinner. Which i recall, fondly now, years later, as a major disaster of noisy Nellies wiggling, wandering and whining amongst the tranquility.
But Lilly has been watching the new construction at the old fave daily, as we walk about town each day, up Main Street…down Main Street.
She spied the blue and white check French Bistro chairs coming off the truck last week – and exclaimed – “Mom, look! Just like the cafes in Paris!”
She spied giant overstuffed blue and white Ikat pillows piled high in the window, and said “Mom – look! You love that pattern.”
She proclaimed this place her new favorite restaurant in town.
She named it, with her darling ten year old rose colored glasses, Meet me on Main.
So today, when we strolled down Main Street together, for our morning walk, as the “Three Muskateers”, she spied “now open for lunch” in the window.
She burst through the screen door, marched right up to the hostess, and asked to sit in my favorite window seat.
And now, as they gobble down Kobe Hot Dogs and Plum Jam Grilled Coleslaw Turkey Burgers, still quite wiggly and wild even years later, I stare in awe of my Bartlett Farm Salad.
“The Farm” grows most of Nantucket’s local produce. It is a beautiful, generations old family business that frankly, we just cant get enough of.
And now, aptly, I can order it right off the lunch menu, in a fabulous wooden bowl, on Main Street.
Chopped veg from tri color peppers to zuchhini to squash, grilled to perfection, and tossed with lettuces, sliced summer tomatoes, avacado, a lemon viniagrette and topped with my favorite burrata.
I shall serve this up all summer long.
Thank goodness we Met on Main.
