The very best part of early morning tv?
Driving to or from set with a shimmering sunset peeking over beautiful Lake Michigan.
Chicago sunrises always make me smile – taking me way back to the beginning of my great love story.
Mike and I were friends for months before we started dating.
We lived in two different cities, met through work, and were always chatting away on the phone for projects.
He had a girlfriend, I had a boyfriend.
Then, after spending days together speaking at a conference in Chicago, a switch flipped.
All I wanted to do was hang out with this guy.
I didn’t want to date the boyfriend anymore. (He had been on thin ice for far too long anyway.)
Lucky for me, Mike felt the exact same way.
So he broke up with his girlfriend.
I left the boyfriend.
And as the weekend sun rose over Lake Michigan, I jumped in a taxi and raced up Lake Shore Drive to his place in Lincoln Park, for an official first date breakfast .
And now, 17 years later, after he spent all last night out in the freezing winter cold helping me load the car for this early am segment, I still thank my lucky, lucky stars.
And sunrises.
