Lucky me – munching and researching the day away in sunny, sixty-five degree San Francisco.
(And the locals all warned me that it was cold here – phoey!)
First stop today in my lil’ red VW convertible – the fab, fun and tasty Marina District.
Lunch at Blue Barn on uber cool Chestnut is A-mazing.
They had me at Beets ‘n Greens. Followed by a hot, oozing Green Egg pressed Sando.

Billed as a new style of neighborhood deli, dedicated to the following farm inc:
- fresh, local food that’s just been harvested
- Chef driven, product oriented menus
- designed around a customer that values quality, ingredients and convenience from a local artisan
- focused on improving the way people eat
- pursuing sustainable and organic ideals
- supporting the greater slow food movement
- proud to partner with local producers
- inspired most dearly by seasonal harvests of Oak Hill Farm, a Sonoma family run farm
Speechless.
Don’t you LOVE to see food elevated?
Don’t you LOVE SF and their food is an icon culture?

And aside from the serious salad swooning and sando chalkboards, can you even BELIEVE the melts board?
I mean HOW am I supposed to choose from these crazy delish combos?

The Barn bar.
Pure harvest centric entertainment watching them churn out the flavorful salads behind the counter.

The other Barn bar…complete with watering “can”, glass handled drinking jars, sunflowers and pumpkin patch.
My very favorite detail?
They bring Oak Hill Farm produce to you – with weekly farm personal orders/deliveries right to the Barn for you to pickup. Brilliant.

Everywhere inside the tiny barn, it feels warm, cozy, comfortable.

You never, ever want to leave.

But…
If you HAVE to, with important work to be done, and more tasting trends to sample, fear not.
For right next door, literally, is super cute Susie Cakes.
Like the magnificent Magnolia in Manhattan, it is the PERFECT old fashioned bakery.
Don’t you love this layered cake confection collection?
It takes me back to childhood, and my Great Grandmother’s perfectly stacked chocolate cake.
Susie whips up Famous Southern Red Velvet (famous for her secret hint of cocoa inside – her best seller), German Chocolate, Tropical Coconut, Confetti Celebration (six mile high layers!), and more.
She’s a GENIUS because she also sells every single specialty layer cake by the slice.
And you can customize your own personal cake flavor, with fluffy buttercream icings in EIGHT frosting flavors to include lemon, mocha, mint, coconut, peanut butter, strawberry…just to name but a few.

Ugggh. I am trying SO hard not to eat sugar.
But, I caved.
All in the name of research.
The Strawberry…
The Chocolate Mint…
the Peanut Butter…
Geeesh.
It hurts.
