ACK SF Style

Sometimes life surprises you.

Well planned afternoons take your breath away.

Never in a million years, while visiting SF perched on the edge of the Pacific, would I have thought I would spend an evening dining “on Nantucket”, floating in the Atlantic.

But that’s the real adventure in wandering aimlessly, scouring neighborhoods street by street, block by block, for amazing new sources, stories and trends.

Imagine my sheer glee when walking up Fillmore, just around the corner from my favorite eats and shops on Chestnut, there was an authentic Nantucket style quarterboard above a tiny, whitewashed joint named for TACKO.

And just inside the window, Nantucket’s infamous Compass Rose from Main Street – painted perfectly right here on the Bay.

I nearly screamed when I saw the art gallery on display inside…

One of my favorite Nantucket artists, Erich Holch, whose charming South Wharf Studio on Nantucket is a daily stop for us walking in town each summer, and whose vivid nautical work hang throughout my own home in Chicago, has set up a west coast studio right inside.

And this – a twin replica of the vintage bike Mike has been restoring, painting, caressing and more every summer for the past two years…

The vintage island postcards covering the bar are a brilliant decor detail.

But my favorite detail at TACKO was the Boat Drinks Bar.

How fun – they have thought of absolutely everything, no?

I simply stared in awe as we ordered island themed specialty drinks, and the bartender ladled them fresh out of the iced buckets, into an ice chipped shaker, and shook them, Tom Cruise Cocktail style, until they were icy, frothy, heavenly concoctions.

Margaritaish is a delish combination of fresh lime, agave wine, orange and agave syrup.

It was amazing.

Sangria comes as white, or red, or Sankaty, or the daily special blend.

And the Agua Fresca?

Available daily in eight fresh squeezes.

Horchata (an ice cold, milky, sweet rice drink from Mexico flavored with cinnamon and a hint of lime)

Jamaica

Lime

Cantelope

Mango

Watermelon

Strawberry

Pineapple

And perhaps the most fun finishing fact?  All boat drinks are available “Sand Pail”, served up in a beach pail with a scoop shovel for a picnic party, right on your barstools.

Nick, the genius behind Tacko, has this message to share as you peruse the menu:

The perfect taco menu is best described by sharing it in pitch perfect detail:

And props Nick for some really fun, fusion “mores”, or sides.

A taste, for every sense, of Nantucket charm, way out west.

This sounds like a fun place! Will have to check it out. I was at Safeway when you shared your debi lily line- loved it all. Was so inspired to think outside of the box to make my parties a little more special :) .

PS- loved the dress you had on :)
