Originally the Fossett family home, Nepenthe (pronounced Nepenth-ay) was built in the 1920s.
The generous and insightful owners felt the view was too magical to keep to themselves, and that it should belong to everyone.
So they hired a student of Frank Lloyd Wright in the 1940s, and Nepenthe, which means "no cares" in Greek, was opened for dining among the trees as an "isle of no cares".
I can’t describe it.
It is pure magic.
Look at the fireplace! I wanted to sit and spend all day long next to it, just waiting for the sun to set and the stoking to begin.
And, by the way, this is the small fireplace. The patio version must be over ten feet wide.
With built in stone benches all around.
Ahhhhhhhh!
