Diner en Blanc

Home from Paris JUST in time.

Tonight is the night.

Diner et Blanc, the legendary European flash mob picnic, where all white is the order of the night, launches in Chicago.

1,000 guests.

1 hour before…the secret location is revealed.

The famous French white napkin wave, surely, will be a part of tonight’s agenda.

The location will be revealed to all at 7 pm tonight in person in a secret meeting spot.

As a Chef du Table, we will arrive at our official meeting point; folding tables, florals, candles, china, crystal, formal dinner and more in hand, and organize our group of guests right onto the Chicago El, en route to dinner under the stars.

Up at 2 am this morning with a heavy dose Jet Lag, with two young children right beside me in the kitchen, we are planning a sumptuous dinner feast en blanc – white.

What are your favorite white foods and drinks?

Do share s’il vous plait.

Georges

Georges

Wow – what a major scene.

A spaceship has landed atop Pompidou, and opened for delicious business as Georges.

If you come to Paris as a single male, look no further. Every single haute hostess stepped directly from runway to this restaurant.

If you come to Paris as a single female, make this your first stop. Every male waiter and captain is dressed like 007 and ready to serve.

The Costes Brothers always make for good design, married with cutting edge cool like you have never seen before.

Not to mention, la vue.

Perched ontop the roof of Pompidou, you have one of the best bird’s eye views of the city you could imagine.

(The best view in the entire city of Paris is from the towers of Notre Dame, fyi. However, that requires much climbing up tipsy century old spiral stone stairways, and there isn’t an ice cold cocktail ontop.)

The Gambas Roti with Coconut Milk Rice was simply sublime.

To sit and feast among the romantic rooftops of Paris, in the flickering twilight, as the amber lights illuminating Notre Dame, La Tour Eiffel, Sacre Coeur, and everything in between turn on and glow in simultaneous unison, certainly is the perfect way to toast a bientot a Paris.

Clafoutis

Clafoutis

Ooh la la.

I am Clafoutis Crazy.

This pretty little plate featured Clafoutis Cerise – cherry with mint, orange and raspberry coulis painted and peppered with pistachios and almonds.

Vanilla bean glace – ice cream – with a vanilla bean garnish sealed the sweet deal.

Moutardes

Moutardes

Here’s a favorite new trick I learned a la Boucherie today.

First – the trio of mustard pots.

Dijon

Grainy

Cranberry

Love. Serving with everything meaty.

Second – the napkins.

Huge, oversize french linen squares with a subtle logo.

Bravo butcher.

Le Boucherie

Le Boucherie

Last sublime Steak Frites in Paris lunch.

And boy, did we find one for the record books.

I will put it third in the entire city, after Chez Georges and Chez Paul.

However, I always want to be in St. Germain, and neither of the above are geographically matched.

Boucherie Rouliere however, tucked down a narrow side street next to St. Sulpice, is.

The filet de bouef was perfection.

I ordered them "bien cuit pour les enfants s’il vous plait".

Well done for the kids.

Our waiter smiled at me, and replied "Non.

Medium madame."

And that was that. You don’t argue with one of the best butchers in Paris – from the Auvergne – home to the famous Salers cattle.

The long narrow bistro has cozy communal tables down both sides, just the way I like it.

Ahhhhh – Paris – you do it so well.
