Founded in the 5th Century, Epernay was passed to the Counts of Champagne (nice job, eh?) in 1024.
In 1284, Champagne became part of the Kingdom of France.
Amazingly, Epernay has been burned, pillaged and destroyed more than twenty-five times. One of the town’s great charms is the numerous buildings and character from so many different periods of history.
Along the Avenue de Champagne the magnificent 19th Century mansions, line the boulevard, like Hotel de Ville, the town hall.
