Back in gorgeous, sunny northern California for a few more exciting days with Safeway.
Christine sent me straight away to Tartine, which I missed last culinary tour.
The website almost says it all – I was drooling as I viewed every single page, menu item, bread video and more.
I am starting with a gougere (ten times the size of any I have ever seen!) with gruyere, black pepper and fresh thyme.
Then I shall move to the croissant, which surely based on looks alone shall defy any blue ribbon boulongerie that has come before.
Next – as that’s breakfast above – I am hopping to the lunch menu. The kitchen opens in just a few minutes.
Their legendary hot pressed sandwhiches have oozed off the pages of their book "Tartine Bread" in full color. I cannot wait to have a few tastes up close and personal.
The Three Cheese Tasting is my first choice – with one third each of Bellwether Carmody, Straus Cheddar and Idiazabal.
For my second course (errr – fourth?) I shall have the Spicy Turkey with peppered turkey (au poivre!), provolone and broccoli rabe pesto.
No room for dessert – bein sur – so time to move on down the road in SF’s famous "gourmet ghetto".
Christine has 4 more spots not to be missed…
