Jetting with Joan

I just love Jet Blue.

As a marketing major, I always get a kick from their tagline “happy jetting”. It’s brilliant really, as I absolutely hate to fly, but is the means to the end of loving to travel and eventually arrive at my destination du jour.

So this morning I had very happy jet-bluing indeed. I had the honour of sitting with the queen of rock and roll this morning, while we both sipped Starbucks in row 3.
Joan Jett, who looked every bit as fab as she did on MTV when I sang along to her I Love Rock n Roll video, was also headed to JFK at 6 am, eyes half open and flipping through Jet Blue’s 33 in flight cable channels.

As we began take-off, she and her rock n roll partner/husband (?)leaned across the aisle and kissed, which I found totally endearing and an obvious “here’s to landing safely on the other end” habit of their hectic travel schedule. Note to self – be better wife and start similar, adorable, affectionate rituals with husband.

Then, proving old habits die hard, Joan and I both settled in to VH1, and enjoyed the smooth serenading of The King himself, dear Michael Jackson, via his life’s work video retrospective. How’s that for happy jetting?

The perfect breakfast

When I was little, my favorite breakfast was my Grandpa GG’s fried eggs. I loved how he fried them to a nice, golden, crispy crunch around the edges. They paired perfectly with his extra crispy browned bacon, which he always cooked in the same pan as the eggs, so the bacon juices gave the eggs even more taste.

Now decades later, and thousands of meals later, this is still the breakfast I long for. I have learned to order my fried eggs “hard” so the yolks don’t run, just like GG’s.
Imagine my delight when I went to breakfast yesterday at M Henry in Andersonville/Chicago.

Here toasted sourdough is topped with hard fried eggs, tomato, gorgonzola, and extra crunchy bacon.

I can’t wait to go again for seconds, hopefully with my GG.

Airports go high tech

Just landed at JFK en route to Nantucket for some summer inspiration.
And what to my husband’s eyes did appear? A mini Best Buy pop up store/vending machine filled with all the latest and greatest tech toys. Geez…just when I thought his new gotta have gadget days were finished with the last J and R box arriving yesterday.
Inside is everything from ipods to iphones – all yours for the taking with one quick swipe of “plastique”.
Next in focus were chic wi-fi bars with food/beverage touch screens at each industrial style stool. You sit, order on screen, swipe le plastique again, then whip out your laptop while served by airport staff.
Love!
